NOORA
Noora is a multifunctional furniture for the elderly that helps them in their daily needs. Nora makes it easier to get up and walk, and is also used as a personal dining table and lighting.
1 : Walking
To facilitate walking with NOORA, two wheels have been installed at its rear section, which rotates around an internal axis. When the elderly person wants to move, they can easily activate it by simply placing their foot on this section and turning it into active mode. When they don’t wish to use the wheels or are stationary, a small push rotates the rear section, switching NOORA to inactive mode.
2 : Table
The design of the table mechanism also reflects simplicity. Two handles are positioned at the top of NOORA, with the table hanging from one of them. When the user wants to use it, they grasp the top handle of the table and pull it upward and toward themselves. A compartment has been designed at the rear end of the table. When the table is fully extended toward the user, this compartment locks into the handle on NOORA’s body, keeping the table fixed at a 90-degree angle. The elderly person can then open the table, which remains closed using magnets embedded between its two layers, and use it for eating, reading, placing accessible items, and more.
3 : Getting Up
In examining the needs of the elderly, one of the primary and perhaps most important requirements is their independence and the ability to carry out the most basic daily and personal tasks on their own. In addition to assisting with walking, NOORA also helps the elderly with sitting down and standing up. The user can remove the table when it is not needed and wishes for NOORA to be in its lightest form, using only the main body for walking and sitting or standing up.
4 : Lighting
The outer body of NOORA’s table is coated with a layer of phosphorescent material. This material absorbs sunlight during the day and emits a gentle glow in complete darkness at night. This illumination brightens the area around the elderly person, enabling them to perform tasks such as taking medication or going to the bathroom without needing to turn on the lights if they wake up at night.
